Sofia Goggia (ITA) confirmed her status as the one to catch after winning the super-G in Val d’Isère (FRA).
In a super-G where the difference was made from the third intermediate to the finish line, Sofia Goggia shifted up a gear in those curves that carry speed to the end, and this time too, she was formidable.
Ragnhild Mowinckel (NOR) was the only one to come close to the Italian star. She also stopped the Italian chance at a podium sweep, as before she came down the hill, Elena Curtoni and Federica Brignone sat in second and third place. The Norwegian returned to the podium after some difficult years due to injuries and brought a breath of happiness among all the athletes in the finish.
This super-G was the fifth win in 17 days for Goggia, who increased her lead over Shiffrin in the overall standings to 65 points. The American initially planned to sit out the race and only decided last Wednesday to compete. Eventually she closed the race still in top-10, earning crucial points.
World champion Lara Gut-Behrami, the only skier other than Goggia or Brignone to win a super-G this season, missed the race weekend after testing positive for COVID-19.
The next stop is Courchevel for two giant slalom races.
